Northwestern - ART 125-CN: Basic Drawing

This introductory course will cover the basic concepts, techniques, materials and processes of drawing. Students will draw primarily from observation and will be encouraged to take skills learned from in-class exercises and combine them with individual ideas and interests to complete a series of required homework projects. Students will also be expected to keep a sketchbook. Throughout the course, slide lectures will introduce students to the history of drawing and contemporary drawing practices in order to illustrate a variety of approaches to drawing. Enrollment is limited to 18. A $74 lab fee is due at registration.

Through a series if exercises and projects, students will produce digital animations/motion graphics using Adobe After Effects CS4. This course is appropriate for artists, designers and media makers who wish to learn how to engage creatively with After Effects. Each class we’ll learn another aspect of the program. Short creative exercises and more involved projects will reinforce technical aspects of the software as well as foster a creative, conceptual use of the medium.
