Northwestern - CHEM 101-CN: General Chemistry

This course is the first of a three-course sequence that is completed by Chemistry 102-CN in the winter quarter and Chemistry 103-CN in the spring quarter. Topics covered in the course include descriptive chemistry: elements and compounds; basic chemical calculations: mole problems, stoichiometry and solution concentrations; gas laws; thermochemistry; quantum theory and electronic structure of atoms; periodic properties of the elements; and chemical bonding. Northwestern - CHEM 210-A: Organic Chemistry

This course is the first of a three term sequence of courses that deal with organic chemistry. The sequence is completed by Chemistry 210-B in the winter quarter, and Chemistry 210-C in the spring quarter. Northwestern - CHEM 210-C: Organic Chemistry II

This is the final course in the three course sequence in organic chemistry. The course is suitable for students pursuing a pre-health career path. This final course begins with coverage of the derivatives of carboxylic acids and enolates. The course then moves on to bio-organic chemistry with special emphasis on proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, enzymes and coenzymes. The emphasis in these areas will be on the synthesis and mechanisms of the reactions in which these classes of molecules participate.

Northwestern - CHEM 102-CN: General Inorganic Chemistry

This course is a continuation of Chemistry 101-CN in the fall quarter. The sequence is completed by Chemistry 103-CN in the spring quarter. Topics to be covered in Chem 102-CN include: additional topics in chemical bonding, condensed phases and solid state chemistry, phase equilibria, solutions and colligative properties, chemical kinetics, chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, and topics in aqueous equilibria. Includes a weekly Saturday laboratory from 9:00 am-1:00 pm. A $235 lab fee is due with registration.
