A course for students wishing to develop skills in translation and to increase their proficiency in using French in a professional or business environment. A research project on a linguistics subject conducted in a French speaking country. A study of culture and gender in texts and films from France, North Africa, Africa, Canada, the Caribbean and the Pacific. Taught in French. A research project approved by the Head of Department. An introduction to the major artistic and historical developments in French film, particularly as it relates to French culture, politics, history and society, from the birth of cinema up to and including the New Wave. The course also introduces some analytical tools for the appreciation of film: film grammar and basic aspects of film theory.
