This course familiarizes students with computers. Through lectures on the use and the potential for abuse of the computer and through hands-on experience leading to the use of software packages for microcomputers, students come to understand the powers and limitations of computer usage is becoming prevalent and to evaluate issues relevant to a citizen in such a society.

The Chase Interdisciplinary Seminar is a thematically organized course that may be cross-listed with a 1000- or 2000-level core curriculum course typically taken by Baruch freshmen in the second semester of their freshman year. The focus of this team-taught course is integration of the scientific process and fact and then transfer of this knowledge to young children. Students complete independent science laboratory projects, review elementary school science curricula and other resources, and visit research institutions and science learning centers. Science is integrated with technology, mathematics, reading, and writing. Teaching strategies that students engage in include hands-on science, thematic planning, cooperative learning techniques, and portfolio assessment. Students demonstrate their understanding of these strategies by incorporating them into units they prepare for use with elementary school children.
