Attorneys are central to American life and popular culture. Recent surveys have reported lawyersÂ’ growing disenchantment with their work and dissatisfaction with their lives. This seminar will explore that topic, beginning with a critical analysis of the data itself before moving to competing theories seeking to explain the phenomenon of attorney unhappiness, the law school educational experience as an exacerbating factor, the conflicting images of attorneys as projected in popular culture, and the sometimes harsh reality of life as a lawyer.
