MART 310 - PLAYWRITING MASTER CLASS Credits: 3 This course trains students working on Martel College's spring theater project, Martel Take Ten. During each class, a theater professor or professional from the Houston area will discuss approaches to playwriting as well as different aspects of theater production. For the first half of the course the emphasis is to work on the plays themselves, getting professional feedback so that the students can polish their plays. Starting in the middle of the semester, the students will recruit and/or audition directors, producers as well as casting the plays and in early/mid April a full staging of all the plays will be presented in the Martel Commons. The goal of the program is to give students at Rice not only an opportunity to write their own plays, but also access to a variety of theater experts who can help them refine their scripts, a chance to collaborate with director and actors in executing the script, and the chance to see their words performed on stage.
