This course will explore the ethical challenges confronting public policy making and the normative obligations of public actors in serving the public interest. Students are exposed to a variety of ethical issues ranging from questions of justice and social equity, liberty and individual freddom, and globalization to issues confronted in a professional setting (e.g. conflict of interest, lying and deception, whistle blowing).

Students should register for both AS.195.606 Statistical and Data Analysis for Policymaking II and AS.195.614 Stata Lab This course is the lab component of 195.606 Statistical and Data Analysis for Policymaking II. While the first semester of statistics focused on the basic principles and theories of statistics, this semester will focus on learning AND applying the statistical techniques to data analysis and policy issues. To effectively apply these tools, it is essential for students to become skilled in using a statistical processing program such as Stata. This course will familiarize students with Stata and the tools available, provide opportunities for âhands-onâ experiences conducting data analysis and enhance studentsâ critical thinking and analytical skills. Students will have considerable support for the statistical programming and data analysis activities via sample programs, in-class demonstrations and hands-on activities in the lab.
