ARTS 101 - DRAWING FOR THE NON ART-MAJOR Credits: 3 Drawing for the Non Art Major is intended to introduce basic, fundamental art practice to students not intending to major in art. This course will work to develop perceptive and interpretive skills - working both inside and outside traditional thought - to translate three-dimensional objects into two-dimensional work. Students will work in multiple black and white media and will be introduced to linear perspective and artistic composition. Visiting important print collections in Houston and in New York, students will see magnificent examples of the works of master printmakers from Durer, the great Renaissance engraver and woodcutter, to Jasper Johns, one of the greatest printmakers of the present day. In the studio, course participants will experiment with the methods and materials that they have seen in the artists' works, producing their own etchings, lithographs, linocuts, and monoprints.
