You will mainly focus on subjects related to the digestive system and nutrient metabolism, endocrinology, the immune system, stress physiology, reproductive and pregnancy cycles, growth and function of muscle, adipose tissue and bone, kidney function, salt and water balance, egg laying as well as mammary gland development and function. The comparative aspects of the development from embryo to adult stage will be covered.You will also be introduced to heart function and circulatory physiology, the respiratory system, the skin, thermoregulation, the brain, the nervous system and the senses.Besides the most widely used domestic animal species (pig, poultry, cattle, and mink), you will also work with other domestic animals.You will relate some of the anatomical and physiological characteristics of the animals with those of humans, e.g., in an attempt to find out if whole animal/organs/cells can be used as models for humans.
